GPS Plot Area Calc (Android app)

1. About this policy

--------------------

This Privacy Policy explains what information the GPS Plot Area Calc Android app (package name com.sigma.gps.plot.calc, "the app") uses, why it uses it, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. "We", "us" and "our" mean Sigma Games, the developer of the app.

By installing or using the app you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

2. Summary

----------

  - You do not need an account. We do not ask for your name, email address or phone number.

  - The fields, measurements, notes, photos and reminders you create are stored only on your phone. We do not have a server and we do not receive a copy.

  - Your location is used only while the app is open on your screen. The app does not collect location in the background.

  - The app is free and shows ads from Google AdMob. It also uses Google Firebase to understand how the app is used and to fix crashes. These services collect device identifiers and usage data, as described below.

  - We do not sell your personal data.

3. Information the app uses

---------------------------

3.1 Information you create (stored on your phone)

The app saves the following in its private storage on your device:

  - Fields and measurements: boundary coordinates, area, perimeter, distance, names, groups and notes.

  - Points of interest, activity logs (for example sowing, spraying, harvest, expenses) and reminders you add to a field.

  - Photos you take with the geotag camera or attach to a field.

  - App settings such as units, theme, language and map type.

  - The home-screen widget shows the name and size of your latest field; it reads them from your phone.

This information is not sent to us and is not uploaded to any server by the app. Photos taken with the geotag camera are also saved to your phone's gallery in an album called "GPS Area", so that you can find and share them.

If Android backup is turned on for your Google Account, Android may include the app's saved data in your Google backup so it can be restored on a new phone. That backup is kept in your own Google Account under Google's terms. We cannot see it or access it.

3.2 Location

With your permission, the app reads your device's precise and approximate location to:

  - show where you are on the map and how accurate your GPS signal is;

  - record the boundary of a field as you walk around it ("Walk & measure");

  - add a precise GPS point at the spot where you are standing;

  - show your coordinates, compass direction and the route to a saved field;

  - stamp geotag photos with coordinates, date and address;

  - show the weather forecast for your field or your current position.

Location is read only while the app is open and visible. During a walk the app keeps the screen on; if you leave the app or lock the phone, the recording pauses. The app does not request background location and does not track you when it is closed.

To provide these features, coordinates are sent to the following services:

  - Google Maps to display the map, and Google's geocoding service to turn coordinates into an address for the photo stamp and the "My location" screen.

  - MET Norway (Norwegian Meteorological Institute) to get the weather forecast. The coordinates are rounded to 4 decimal places before they are sent.

  - The Google Maps app, if you tap "Navigate" or open a point in Google Maps. The coordinates of your field or point are passed to it.

The app does not send your GPS location to advertising or analytics services. Those services may estimate your general location (country or city) from your IP address.

3.3 Camera and photos

The camera is used only on the geotag camera screen, and only to take photos. The app does not record video or audio. When you attach photos from your gallery, Android's photo picker gives the app only the photos you select. Photos stay on your device unless you choose to share them.

3.4 Files you import, export and share

You can import KML, KMZ, GeoJSON and CSV files that you choose or open with the app; they are read on your device. You can export or share your fields as PDF, KML, KMZ, GeoJSON or CSV files. Sharing uses Android's share sheet, and the file goes only to the app or person you choose.

3.5 Place search

When you type in the map search box, the text you type is sent to the Google Places service to show matching places. If you type coordinates instead, the app moves the map there on your device and nothing is sent.

3.6 Information collected automatically by third-party services

The app includes the following Google services. They collect information automatically when you use the app:

  - Google Mobile Ads (AdMob): advertising ID, app set ID, IP address (used to estimate general location), device information (model, operating system, language, network type), diagnostic information such as app launch time, and how you interact with ads. This is used to show ads (banner, native and full-screen ads), to personalise them where you have allowed it, to measure ad performance and to prevent fraud.

  - Google Maps SDK: request information such as your IP address, device model and operating system version, a pseudonymous identifier for the SDK, and how you move the map (for example panning and zooming), to provide and improve Google services.

  - Firebase Analytics: an app-instance identifier, the advertising ID, device information, country, screen names and events that describe how the app is used (for example that a walk was started, a field was saved, or a setting was changed, with counts and sizes). These events never contain your coordinates, addresses, field names, notes or search text.

  - Firebase Crashlytics: crash reports with the device model, Android version, app version, an installation identifier and the technical state of the app at the time of the crash, including the screen name and the usage events described above.

  - Firebase Remote Config and Firebase Installations: an installation identifier, your country, language, time zone and Android version, used to download app settings such as which ads to show.

4. Permissions the app uses

---------------------------

Android asks for your approval before the app can use location, the camera or notifications. You can refuse any of them and still use the rest of the app, and you can change your choice at any time in Android Settings > Apps > GPS Plot Area Calc > Permissions.

  * Location (precise and approximate): ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION

      Why the app uses it: Show your position on the map, record a boundary as you walk, add GPS points, navigate to a field, stamp photos and show local weather. Used only while the app is open.

      When it is granted: Optional. Asked when you first open the map or use a GPS feature.

  * Camera: CAMERA

      Why the app uses it: Take geotagged photos of your land. Photos only; no video or audio.

      When it is granted: Optional. Asked when you open the geotag camera.

  * Notifications: POST_NOTIFICATIONS

The app does not request background location, microphone, contacts, SMS, call log, phone number or full storage access, and it does not run a foreground service.

5. How the information is used

------------------------------

  - To provide the app's features: measuring land, saving fields, photos, navigation, weather and reminders.

  - To show advertising, which keeps the app free.

  - To understand which features are used and to improve the app.

  - To find and fix crashes and errors.

  - To prevent fraud and abuse and to comply with the law.

6. Sharing and third-party services

-----------------------------------

We do not sell your personal data for money. We do not run our own servers, so the only information that leaves your phone is what is sent to the service providers below, each under its own privacy policy. Our advertising partner (Google) receives the identifiers and usage information listed in section 3.6 so that ads can be shown, measured and protected from fraud; see section 7 for your choices.

  * Google Maps, Places and geocoding (Google LLC)

      Privacy policy: https://www.met.no/en/About-us/privacy

Information may also be shared when you choose to share a file or photo from the app, and if we are required to do so by law.

7. Advertising and your choices

-------------------------------

  - In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the app shows Google's consent form before any ad is requested. You can change your choice at any time in the app under Settings > Ad privacy choices.

  - On any phone you can reset or delete your advertising ID, or turn off ad personalisation, in Android Settings > Privacy > Ads (the exact menu name depends on your phone).

  - You can turn off the location, camera or notification permission at any time in Android settings.

To learn how Google uses information from apps that use its services, see https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

8. Data retention and deletion

------------------------------

  - Data on your phone (fields, notes, logs, reminders, settings and attached photos) stays until you delete it in the app, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app. Uninstalling removes it permanently from your phone. We cannot restore it because we do not hold a copy.

  - Photos saved to your gallery (album "GPS Area") remain on your phone after you uninstall the app, until you delete them yourself.

  - Analytics, crash and advertising data is held by Google and kept for a limited period according to Google's retention rules (crash reports for 90 days; analytics data for up to 14 months).

To ask a question about your data or to request deletion of data that can be linked to you, email us at support@sigmagames.com.

9. Security

-----------

Your fields and photos are kept in the app's private storage, which Android protects from other apps. Information sent to the services listed above is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children

------------

The app is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

11. Your rights

---------------

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in Europe, the CCPA in California or the Digital Personal Data Protection Act in India), you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict its use, and to withdraw consent. Because the app has no accounts and your fields are stored only on your phone, you control most of your data directly on your device. For anything else, contact us at support@sigmagames.com.

12. International transfers

---------------------------

The third-party services listed above may process information on servers outside your country, including in the United States and the European Economic Area.

13. Changes to this policy

--------------------------

We may update this policy from time to time. The new version will be published at the same web address and the "Last updated" date above will change. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
